The group 6 Martini Porsche of Jacky Ickx and Gijs van Lennep leads an Inaltera past the pits complex during the night. Using the 2.14 litre turbo-charged engine, the model 936 started from pole position for the 44th Grand Prix d'Endurance and led from start to finish. Ickx recorded his third Le Mans victory with van Lennep taking his second; it was also the first victory for a turbo-charged car.

Luigi Chinetti's second victory at Le Mans in 1934 was notable for his outstanding driving and his pit crew's ability to produce chewing gum on demand to stem the flow of fuel from a fractured petrol tank. Driving an Alfa 8c 2300 with Philip Etancelin, it was to be Alfa's final victory at Le Mans. The image depicts Chinetti leading an Aston Martin Ulster and a Lagonda through Tertre Rouge.

In a memorable performance in atrocious conditions, the Pratt & Miller Corvette C5-R team finished 1st and 2nd in the GTS Class at Le Mans 2001. The class winning car of Ron Fellows, Johnny O'Connel and Scott Pruet is shown leading its sister car of Andy Pilgrim, Franck Freon, and Kelly Collins out of the second chicane.
